Light and sound detect tumors

A new method of using light and sound to detect circulating tumor cells could provide an early warning and allow the disease to be treated at an earlier stage.
The photoacoustic melanoma detection device shines laser light into blood cell samples that possibly include cancer cells. The melanin inside the cancer cells absorb the light, which causes a high frequency acoustic response detected by sensors in the photoacoustic flow meter. This allows the cancer cells to be immediately identified before the tumors form.
