The idea is to develop stick-on electronic tattoos to monitor the body's electrical activity in a noninvasive way.
The tattoo will be composed of ultra-flexible silicon components arranged in a serpentine shape, which will allow them to bend without breaking, and will be powered by tiny solar cells or a wireless coil. The tattoo will use electrodes to measure the signals produced by muscle and brain activity, and will be used to diagnose sleep apnea or monitor the heartbeat of premature babies.
It could also be possible to use the tattoos to stimulate the muscles of patients undergoing physical rehabilitation.
