Many Europen nations have a surplus of electricity generating capacity. A cable laid across the Straits of Gibralter would enable electricity to be transmitted & sold to African nations which were connected up to a common electricity grid. The funding for such a cable (and the transmission grid) could come from a European sponsored 'Marshall Aid' type plan for Africa. This would further economic development in Africa and ease immigration pressures on Europe simultaneously. A classic...

I'm kinda sick & tired of the shaving routine (I normally use a disposable razor for a wet shave) and can't help feeling that there has to be an easier way. Perhaps miniature robots (aka. 'BOTS' )invisible to the naked eye but with large enough cutters to cut the shaft of hair follicles could be made. They could be progammed to cut down growing stubble on an on-going basis. Maybe they could do their work while your asleep. Just think of it, waking up and realising you've already been...

Have you ever gone out for a walk the day after a windy/stormy day/night and noticed on nearly every street/avenue the twisted carcasses of broken umbrellas? Umbrellas operate fine on rainy days where there is just light to moderate wind - that is they perfom their design function beautifully (keeping the rain off you). However on days when winds start to gust and squall, it is a full time job just trying fo keep the umbrella facing into the wind. At intersections/road junctions and in...

I wonder, could the lower half of the luner landers left on the moon not be re-used as the ready-made base support for future, more permanent habitation modules on the moon? The advantages would be as follows: Exact location of all the landers is known. Exact dimensions of the landers is known so a habitation module could easily be designed to mate perfectly with the lower half of the lunar module. Navigation computers and remote control techniques have improved immensely since the 1960s,...

Have you ever had the nasty job of tryng to get dog-poop off the sole of your shoe after you've inadvertantly walked in it? Usual coping strategy: find a loose twig-somewhere and scrape repeatedly (yuk!) or failing to find any loose twigs, find a grassy lump somewhere and again, wipe, wipe, wipe untill most of it is gone from the bottom of your shoe. Is it possible to devise some small nifty poop dispatcher? If a hose & tap are nearby-no problem, simply hose the muck off. But supposing you...

Using a miniature transmitter/reciever and G.P.S. (Global Positioning System) technology, the whereabouts of your beloved pooch is relayed to your mobile/cell-phone in real time and to the nearest metre, via text messages. Special warnings would be activated if the dog went beyond a radius specified by the exasperated owner! This device would be attached to the muts' collar. Doggy's under tabs at all times. Howwwwlll, howlllll!
