Add on an optional very small amount of money to Hotel bills. Money would accrue and then be donated to homeless charities to help the homeless in a town/city. Temporary homeless people (hotel customers) would thus help permanently homeless people. How many trees are cut down to make newspapers? In an effort to offset this deforestation, all the major newspapers for one day in the year, could add just 1c / 1p or their price. The profit from the action could be pooled together and ploughed straight back into a fund specifically created to plant trees. If all the major newspapers did it, then it would create a level playing ground, price wise, for that one day and no customer would defect to another paper on price. Even if just one...

On the whole tourists are unfamiliar with the countries they visit, so when they come across an opportunity to donate something physical e.g. pens to a school, they are ill prepared. A voluntary run service/website could be set up containing information from other travellers offering advice/information of what a tourist could donate before he/she goes abroad.
