Interface that allows appliances to connect to your smart cart bar code reader to automatically set oven temps., cooktimes, and display mixing instructions based on data from UPC codes. This would also keep track of items you use and create your shopping list for you. Which you could fax to your grocery store ahead of time and then you wouldn't need the smart cart.

I saw a nifty safety lock for handguns on a tv program. The hand gun is equipped with some sort of locking mechanism which is unlocked by the presence of a magnetic ring which is worn by the owner. No ring, no discharge, no accidental shootings. Great idea, no doubt it'll save lives, make the world a safer place, etc. But what I could really use is a ring that would unlock, and start my car when I lose my keys, or prevent my car starting if someone tries to start it with out the ring.

A periscope type of insert for your chimney that projects real time view of the sky, or chimney top vista, to a screen at the fire place opening. A sort of Rube Goldberg version of the window.
