The new dog collar will be designed as a back-up warning system to warn owners if their dog is in danger of suffering from heat exhaustion. The fabric band collar will feature a thermistor within a small black box. The thermistor will constantly measure the temperature of the dog's environment, and will send a cell phone alert if the temperature becomes too hot (typically 80 degree F).

A new cat door will only open for approved microchipped pets, preventing strays and random animals from entering the home. The door will include an integrated microchip reader that will store the information of up to 32 cats. The door will open when the cat lowers its head to enter, automatically locking again once the pet has passed through. The reader will be compatible with most microchips. A larger version for small dogs could be developed as well.

The continuing effort to control mosquitoes can now add a potential wall of infrared light to the list. The light can be used to form a wall separating space that will block mosquitoes from moving through it. The light barrier won't seem to hurt the mosquitoes, merely scare and repel them. The device will be easy to use, requiring only a standard laser to block an entryway.

Why not create a device that will combine a pet poop scoop with an incinerator, effectively turning pet waste into sterile ash in seconds? The device will consist of a retractable handle and an integrated decomposition chamber that will contain replaceable cartridges of as yet undisclosed chemicals. The pet waste will mix with the chemicals to become odorless, sterile ashes in under a minute.

The idea is to develop a system that will allow pet owners a way to interact with their pets in real time by remotely controlling toys through the internet. The system will include a webcam, control box, and two devices that will be able to each move and swing a standard pet toy. Users will be able to log in and manipulate the toys from the on screen controls while watching their pet via the live webcam feed.

I have a new idea which will help combat the spread of malaria. Why not spray mosquitoes with a modified fungus that delivers compounds targeted to the parasite. The fungus will attack mosquitoes, so they modify the fungi using a human antibody and a scorpion toxin, both of which specifically target the malaria causing parasite and block its development. The fungus can also be used to treat other insect carried diseases, such as Lyme disease or dengue fever, by targeting the fungus...

It was proved that the bacteria in a sheep's stomach that enable it to digest cellulose can also help clean TNT contaminated soil. The TNT breaks down completely, leaving no trace in the animal's feces. Why not plant grasses in TNT contaminated soil and set the sheep free to graze and clear the land at the same time. According to my estimations, a flock of 20 sheep could completely clear an acre of TNT residue in less than three years.

It is known that a basking shark feeds by swimming with its mouth open. The shape of the shark's body plays an important role in its efficiency as a feeder. A pressure differential is created as the shark swims, resulting in lower pressure along the shark's top and helping to draw water out of the shark's gills in a way that allows it to rely on the passive flow of water to feed. Why not design a turbine with the shark's design in mind? Water enters through the first turbine while...

It seems to be a great idea to create a harness which will allow dogs to be guided remotely and controlled while out of sight. The harness will come with GPS, sensors, and wireless modem allowing handlers to keep track of the dog while issuing commands from a distance. The system will relay the commands to the dog in the form of vibrations or tones that the dog has been trained to recognize.
