Wine bottles made from a paper based glass will cost less to produce than conventional glass and will have only 10 percent the carbon footprint. The paper wine bottles will weigh only 50 grams, instead of the 500 grams of a standard wine bottle. Its shape and dimensions will be the same, however, so it can be easily integrated into existing displays. The wine itself will be contained within a foil bladder similar to a wine box. The paper wine bottles could be useful for...

The idea is to create little stickers that will be stuck to each grocery store item and will then dissolve into an organic soap. The sticker will dissolve with water into a natural soap that will help to wash away pesticides, wax, bacteria, and dirt. The labels will still display the same PLU codes and other information as their less soapy contemporaries.

A new food translation application will be quicker and more accurate than existing similar applications while taking up less memory space. Users will download the region specific apps to their mobile devices, eliminating the need for an internet connection. The application will go beyond simply a literal translation of the name of the dish and also provide an image of the dish and a list of its ingredients. People with food allergies will be able to program the app to signal a...

The idea is to create a small easy to use sensor that can be dipped into a drink to determine if it has been spiked with the date rape drugs GHB and ketamine. The sensor will be able to detect the colorless and odorless drug by the way it will change the optical properties of the drink. A 'signal change' caused by how light will move through the drugged drink will trigger an alarm, which could be a beeping noise or flashing light for use in loud, dark environments.

An electronic tongue is able to differentiate between different types of sparkling wine based on the amount of sugar added during production. The device uses mathematical processing combined with chemical measurement systems and an artificial neural network to identify the characteristics of different types of wines. The Electronic Tongue could also be used to detect defects during the wine making process.

Why not combine jug and scales two in one so as measure both volume and weight? Liquid volume will be measured just like a regular measuring cup, with markings on the clear sides. Solid weights will be measured by the built-in scale, and an LCD screen on the handle will display the weigh amounts.

Why not create a plate able to detect radiation levels in food, alerting the diner with its OLED lights? The plate will contain a built in radioactive meter to control the ring of OLED lights depending upon the amount of radiation detected in the food. No rings will mean the food has no radioactive traces, while one ring will indicate a small amount, two rings will indicate significant amounts, and a red ring will be a sign that safe radiation levels have been exceeded. The plate...

My idea is to use the same clay ingredient as in bricks to create a packaging that can help foods stay fresh longer. The new film will be made up of 70% montmorillonite clay, with a structure similar to conventional bricks and mortar. Conventional packaging could be sprayed with or dipped in the film, creating a layer less than 100 nanometers thick. This extremely fine layer will be 100 times more resistant to penetration by oxygen than the current silicon oxide films.

The creation of antibacterial paper has been attempted before, but this method seems to be the most effective. Why not create food packaging impregnated with silver nanoparticles? This will kill bacteria and help prevent food from spoiling.
