New sunglasses will do more than protect your eyes from UV rays - they will also harness power from the sun to top off mobile gadgets. The sunglasses will be made from a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses that have been fitted with photovoltaic cells on the plastic ear pieces. The cells will collect solar rays to charge a battery embedded in the frame, and the ear pieces can be removed to reveal a microUSB or Lightening connector that can be used to charge an iPhone.

Being touted as 100 times stronger than duct tape, fiber tape will feature a special resin that will harden like steel. Fiber tape will be immersed in water before use, then wrapped around the broken item and allowed to set. It will begin to harden in ten minutes. It can be sanded or painted once dry and will be completely waterproof, as well as nearly impossible to remove from skin or clothing once it sets.

As we know, in the whiteboard industry, only enameled board and glass board have a long-life and easy to use. Other alternatives can be easy to get damaged or tend to remain smear after cleaning. Or they may have too much glare when viewing from certain angles. However, enameled board and glass board are either too expensive or not easy to move. So we have some new material to solve this problem. We do UV curable technology above the coated steel sheets. Special formulation makes the...

A new, sustainable lamp design will use algae to illuminate a room while consuming carbon dioxide, potentially scrubbing as much as a ton carbon from the air in one year. The tube-shaped lamps will be filled with algae, which will grow well inside the structure and use photosynthesis to emit a green glow. The lamps will also store the energy created during photosynthesis for later use, such as at night or in low-light settings. A single light will be able to absorb about a ton of...

Using only water and pressure, it is possible to develop a stretchable, flexible wire made of spider's silk that will be able to conduct electricity as well as copper - opening the door to new forms of artificial muscle. The conductive threads will be made from the dragline silk from the webs of common orb weaver spiders, which are chosen because they construct very large webs. The thread will be mixed with dry nanotubes, dampened to encourage adhesion, and then pressed between a...

The solar energy bucket concept will add extra functionality to the common bucket, transforming it into an energy-gathering source to heat water or provide light. The bottom of the bucket will be equipped with a small solar panel that, when the bucket is flipped over, will gather solar energy during the day. The bottom will be angled slightly for more efficient capture of the sun's rays, and the stored energy can then be used to power the built-in LED lights or slowly heat the...

A new CO2 scrubbing filter inspired by bird lungs could be applied to both power plants and automobiles. The scrubber will be based on the tiny tubes inside the lungs of birds, called parabronchii. The tubes, with their large surface area, are very efficient at filtering oxygen from the air--a necessary adaptation since birds fly often fly at altitudes where there is very little oxygen. Using the lungs as a model, it will be possible to design filters made of different-sized...

The new water purifier will be a portable, low-power system that will simplify the process of bringing clean water to rural areas. The purifier will work by boiling the water until it turns to steam, which will then be compressed back to liquid water in a pure, distilled form. A hose attached to the device will be inserted into the water - be it ocean water, a mud puddle or even liquid from a chemical waste site. The water will be drawn into the purifier and heated to its boiling...

Taking inspiration from nature, I suggest developing a self-healing solar cell that will repair itself with its synthetic vascular system. The self-regenerating solar cell will be designed with a network of channels that will mimic the vascular system of leaves, and will be composed of a water-based gel core, electrodes and light-sensitive, organic dye molecules. The dye molecules will produce electricity when they are "excited" by the sun's rays, but they will eventually degrade...

Using a titanium scaffold, it will be possible to develop a method to create a more lifelike, flexible artificial ear. Previous artificial ear technologies required doctors to create the ear shape from a lump of cartilage. In contrast, the new technique will involve using a 3D computer model to build a basic ear shape out of titanium mesh. The mesh will be used to hold together the collagen connective tissue from a cow and then will seed with cartilage cells from a sheep, which...
