Doorbells for the deaf have been already invented. They usually have a light that flashes brightly instead of playing a tune. What about deaf people who are blind as well... I suggest creating a device which, when activated, uses the only reliable sense left - other than smell and taste - touch. For ex., there can be a vibrating motor in the person's pocket.

My idea is to provide fire trucks with a system which is a combination of a conveyor belt and a ladder. It could help firemen move people more quickly from burning buildings. The system will contain rungs on rollers that will slide on tracks. Such a ladder will be able to lower four people to the ground in 4 minutes while the standard time for rescue, using traditional methods, is about 15 minutes.

Have you ever dreamed of a car that can be controlled by mind power? I guess it is possible to realize the idea using some kind of a brain-machine gaming interface. The 'driver' will be required to wear a neuroheadset with EEG sensors that will send bioelectric signals to the system. On the road, the system will link the patterns with commands such as steering and acceleration, which will be sent to the car's drive-by-wire system.

Why not develop a new microscope lens that can capture three-dimensional images without the need for multiple lenses or a moving camera? The lens will be shaped a bit like a gemstone, with eight facets surrounding a central facet. Each facet on the lens will be slightly different from the others, which will enable each one to capture an image of the object from slightly different angles. A computer then will combine the nine images into one three-dimensional image. Hopes are...

A new method of wirelessly monitoring peoples' breathing while they sleep could provide a less expensive and more comfortable method of keeping watch over patients. The system uses a network of store-bought wireless transceivers set up along the patient's bed. The transceivers all send signals across the patient's body, which are broken with the rising and falling of the chest and abdomen. A computer algorithm detects when there has been too much time between breaths.

Old CD's can be put to a new use and turned into dumbbells, providing an incentive to workout while also reducing waste. The dumbbell kit will consist of a handle and two sets of dumbbell caps. The discs will slip onto a spool running through the center and attached to the handle, and the caps will close to keep them secure. Discs can be added up to a maximum weight of 5 pounds, including the 2.2 pound handle.

The new system will help absent-minded parents remember not to leave their child in their car. It will include a pad that will slip into the child's safety seat and an alarm unit that will fit on a key ring. The system will activate when the child in placed in the safety seat, and will sound an alarm if the caregiver walks more than 15 feet from the occupied safety seat. It is supposed that the system will significantly reduce the actual, though slight, chance of a sleeping...

Technologies are constantly developing and becoming cheaper. They make our life more comfortable and joyful. A virtual window in a wall is a great example of such development. It can display any dynamic pictures you like: from the magnificent scenery to the life in the deep sea or the view from the orbital station window. Winscape virtual window provides the effect of presence in front of the real window. The view from the window changes depending on the position of the...

It would be cool if our mobile phone or PDA beeped when there was our friend nearby. It seems to be possible using Bluetooth technology.

I suggest creating a TV that can play our favorite radio / CD / other when we mute it to avoid commercials.
