RE: Unlocked iPhone

As the previous person noted, finding an unlocked iPhone at your price point is pretty tough, even on EBay. If you can possibly manage, it, though, I would suggest that you spend the extra $$ to get one that is already unlocked and jailbroken from a seller with excellent feedback, and ask lots of questions before making a purchase to be sure that the phone is going to do what you need. Sellers with lots of experience with these devices should be willing to answer your questions about whether the phone will work overseas.

It is possible to jailbreak and unlock an iPhone yourself; I myself have jailbroken my own iPhone several times as new OS versions have come out. My phone is not unlocked (I'm on AT&T), and unlocking can be tricky on some iPhone models, especially with the newer iPhone operating systems. If you're pretty tech savvy and you decide to buy a device and try this yourself, be sure to do lots of reading up on how to do the jailbreak and unlock. There are several good sites that offer detailed instructions and the necessary software and files.
