Cyclists can reduce their fear of flats with a new pump system that uses the compression of the tire upon the ground to pump air into the tube until the optimal pressure is reached. The pump system includes the tire, inner tube, and air valve. A one way valve draws in the air, which goes to the lumen, a small tube in the center of the tire. The lumen is compressed as the tire rolls along the ground, which forces air out of one end and into a second valve on the inner tube,...

A new bicycle made out of folded sheet metal will be stronger, lighter, and cheaper to produce than the conventional bike frame, and it will be folded by hand. The bicycle frame will be based on a patented system, which will include a method of cutting perforations into pieces of sheet metal and will allow the metal to be folded by hand. The folded sheets will then be riveted or glued together to from the desired object.

A new bike will be designed to help toddlers develop motor skills by providing a more stable ride. The bike will be propelled through the motion of two large spheres supported by stabilizing balls, which will allow the bike to move in any direction without falling over. The spheres can also be removed and replaced with more traditional wheels to challenge developing skills.

The wheel consists of a center layer of rubber that is stretched and held tightly by a series of rods, which can be adjusted for different types of terrain. The mountain bike version of the wheel includes 29-inch carbon fiber rims and is open on the sides, although it is being considered covering the opening with thin sidewalls to keep debris from getting caught in the tire. Besides eliminating the risk of flats, the wheel also helps increase performance by storing potential energy...

The bicycle GPS tracker will sound an alert if the bike is stolen, and then help you track it down and recover it. The bike GPS will mount inconspicuously inside the headset of the bike and will be secured by a special wrench. When the bike is parked, the user will active the GPS unit with an electronic key, which will turn on the vibration sensor. If the unit senses vibrations when it has not been turned off, such as in the case of being stolen, it will sent an alert through SMS...

Another idea is to develop a concept bike that will use brain-controlled gear shifting. The system will use neurotransmitters in the helmet to measure brainwaves, which will operate an electronic gear shift. A wireless transmitter attached to the seat post will affect the commands.

My idea is to have bikes with built in solar powered LED lights. Besides using solar, the lights of the bike could also be charged through a cell phone's micro USB. The bike's frame will be made of super light rust free aluminum, and will include an ABUS X-plus cylinder chain lock integrated into the frame, deterring envious thieves.

Why not create a dual-cable lever for bicycles to allow riders with one hand to control the front and rear brakes on mountain and cyclocross bikes. The lever will be adjusted to engage both brakes at the same time or one a bit after the other. There will also be the option either to place the lever on the left or right side of the handlebar.
