An isotope-infused skin patch could be used as a spot treatment for basal cell carcinoma. The patch is infused with phosphorus-32, a radioactive isotope that is used to treat some forms of cancer. In studies, the patches were applied over the course of a week to 10 patients with facial basal cell carcinoma. After 6 months, the basal cell cancers had come back in only 2 of the test subjects. The patches could provide a non-surgical, non-radiotherapy alternative to the...

The ultra-fine nano pen needle takes advantage of a 5-bevel design to help ease the pain of daily injections. The 4mm needle uses special design, which features a 5-bevel needle tip that is able to penetrate the skin more easily due to its flatter, thinner surface. In comparison with 3-bevel pen needles, this needle is significantly easier to insert and less painful, with the force needed to penetrate the skin reduced by 23 percent.

A new robotic wheelchair will go where no wheelchair has gone before--climbing over curbs and tackling stairs. The wheelchair will feature four independently powered wheels mounted on five axes. Sensors next to the wheels will scan obstacles to determine if they can be rolled over, signaling the wheels to change to legs if necessary. An on-board computer will help keep the chair steady and the legs properly aligned, allowing the legs to step on or over the obstacle. The legs will...

Adhesive plasters are more relevant in summer than in any other time of the year. Scratches, cuts can appear because of active leisure activities. Female ankles suffer greatly from new shoes. Adhesive plaster was found to be not only a protection, but also a part of the image. The Japanese company Nichiban decided to develop the idea of children's plasters with pictures and launched a series of adhesive plasters for adults. Plasters are available in packs of 30 pieces. Six designs...

The reason for increased sweating can also be disorders of the nervous system, endocrine glands and the...

Do not over do it with the soap. 1/2 the measure is sufficient. If a stuffed animal has long or acryillic/ nylon type fur, air dry, do not put in the dryer. Do not use bleach, but you can add 1/2 up white vinegar in the wash water if they smell bad. Only use 1/2 measure of softener, or none at all. It is best to air dry most all of the toys you wash.

Why not create a new material for bone implants to resemble more accurately the geometry and stiffness of bone? The material is to be designed using a technique known as topology optimization, which forms a three-dimensional scaffold. Metal powder is melted into the desired shape with a laser, creating an open pore structure that can allow the transporting of nutrients through the implant.

Most endoscopes are costly and need to be sanitized after every use. My idea is to create a new endoscope which will consist of a complete video camera of only one cubic millimeter in size. The small size as well as cost effective technique could be achieved by adding contacts to one side of the camera's sensor wafer and then joining it face to face with the lens wafer. This will allow the tiny cameras to be cut out of the joined wafers, and also to be more self-contained. BTW,...

The idea is to create a device which will able to concentrate sunlight to produce high powered steam for the sterilization of medical instruments. Such a device could benefit clinics in impoverished areas around the world. The autoclave is to be created by using a curved mirror to focus sunlight on a steel tube able to boil water and produce high pressure steam. The device will be able to reach 250 F for 30 minutes, which is the standard set by the CDC for utensil sterilization.
