Goggles able to display information about the area with color-coded outlines will make it easier for partial-sighted people to move through their environments. Visually impaired people often struggle with discerning contrast and depth. The new goggles will feature a pair of cameras mounted on a virtual reality headset and connected to a very small computer. The cameras will scan the area ahead of the wearer and convert the information to digital code sent to the computer. Using an...

I have an idea to use gold nanoparticles to monitor the bloodstream to find tumor cells that remain after treatment. Polymer coated particles linked to a growth factor peptide instead of an antibody can detect and tag circulating tumor cells in the blood. The tagged tumor cells can then be revealed through laser illumination.

Why not create electronic earplugs that can selectively block sound, activating only when the noise level hits a certain threshold. Tiny microphones inside the earplugs will be able to instantly block sounds waves that are over the accepted limit. The earplugs will also be able to amplify sounds by 15 decibels just by flipping the built in switch, but even in the amplification setting they will still block sudden loud impact sounds.

The wristwatch device will be designed to help reduce the nausea caused by chemotherapy without the use of drugs. The transdermal neuromodulation device will be worn on the wrist much like a typical watch. It will offer an alternative to drugs by modulating neural pathways through electrical pulses.

Diabetics may soon be able to check their blood sugar through their sweat, eliminating the need for needles and blood. Why not develop a device which can detect the variances in sweat patterns that occur when the body's glucose reaches critically low levels? The sweat meter will consist of at least three electrodes to be attached to the skin, which will provide a more accurate reading of the slight electrical current that will be sent through the surface of the skin and into the...

The idea is to develop a contact lens able to wirelessly monitor and report the blood sugar level of the wearer. The contact lens will work through enzyme-based electrochemical process, which will be able to measure the glucose levels in tear fluid. Small radios will interact with the sensor to wirelessly transmit the data, eliminating the need for daily monitoring by needles.

It would be great to have a quicker test for tuberculosis. The standard diagnostic test for TB cannot detect forms that are resistant to drugs, and cell culture tests can take several weeks. With a new test the results are supposed to be ready in a couple of hours and determine if the patient has TB and whether or not it is drug resistant. Early detection of TB can drastically cut down on transference of the disease.

A breath test for the swine flu could help to not only identify infected people more quickly, but also prevent unnecessary vaccinations. The test will be able to identify the levels of exhaled nitric oxide and isoprene, which are both associated with the flu and viral infections. The new H1N1 test will be one more step along to the way to preventing pandemics and saving resources.

I wish we had a vaccine for lung cancer, which could turn the deadly disease to a manageable illness. The vaccine would work by attacking the harmful mechanisms of lung cancer. The active ingredient would be based on a commonly found protein in victims of uncontrolled cancer, and could make cancer manageable by creating antibodies against the proteins that signal the uncontrolled cell cancerous cell growth.
