The lens will put a new spin on iPhone photography, swiveling to allow the user to view the screen from different angles. The right-angle lens will consist of three glass lenses and a prism within an aluminum body. It will attach the existing lens of the iDevice with a reusable, sticky polymer pad, where it can be angled to catch low or overhead shots while still letting the photographer look at the screen. The lens will also turn tables into tripods--it will be turned to allow the...

The best defense against common communicable diseases is prevention. Door knobs and handles are covered with a huge amount of microbes so why not create self-steralizaing door handles? I suggest creating a door handle that continuously sterilizes itself with a UV light, only taking a break when you actually use it. There will be some kind of switch in the handle's frame to toggle the sanitizing illumination on and off.

The idea is to develop a head worn device that will interpret facial movements and translate them into speech. The system will consist of small magnets inside the mouth and on the tongue which will create a magnetic field. Sensors attached to the headset will be able to detect changes in the field and translate the motion into words. The device could also be improved by developing magnets that can be implanted in the tongue, as well as reducing the headset to the size of a...

Why not create a system that will allow the blind to "see" their surroundings through the use of sound. The system will use sunglasses with built-in micro video cameras, a computer, and a pair of headphones. The cameras will analyze the space in front of them and create a 3D model in which various surfaces will be assigned sounds to be played back through the headphones. Blind users will be able to decipher the sounds and "hear" the space around them, which their brains will turn...

A wireless system for monitoring bridge integrity will transmit minute-by-minute updates and will cost as much as one-hundredth the amount of wired network. The sensors will be made up of four flexible layers and will be less that 5 millimeters thick. The different layers will measure parameters, store energy, transmit the data, and harvest energy from ambient light and radio waves. The sensors will be strong and self-adhesive and will require no wires or batteries since they will...

Why not combine photovoltaic panels with OLED's to create panels that can be adjusted to face the sun as well as create designs or messages on the sides of buildings? The panels will be made of aluminum and stainless steel. During the day, the panels will be adjusted to maximize solar energy absorption while at night they will be flipped to allow the OLED screens to provide light for interior rooms or media playback.

Why not create a remote control that will allow the user to operate their television by bending and twisting the device. The controller will consist of two layers of piezoelectric sensors that can detect the flexing of the device. Bending the film will adjust the volume, while twisting will change channels and shaking will turn the device off.

It's time to develop a pressure sensitive material that will be used to make robots and prosthetic limbs more sensitive. The stretchy material will consist of two thin layers of carbon nanotubes, which will function as an array of tiny springs. The nanotubes will be held in a layer of silicon, which will stretch in various directions while retaining its shape. A pair of these silicon encased nanotubes will be used to sandwich a third silicon layer that will hold an electrical...
