The curved needles allow the wound to be drawn up into the device, where it is held with an even pressure that allows the blood underneath to form a clot and slow bleeding until further medical help is available.

Genetically engineered spider's silk may be the next step toward creating artificial skin for patients requiring skin grafts, such as burn victims. Spider dragline silk is incredibly strong, much stronger than the collagen conventionally used to create artificial skin. By weaving the silk fibers of golden orb web spiders onto a steel frame it is possible to create a mesh scaffold on which human skin cells can thrive.

The idea is to develop a wireless power transmission device that will be able to power implanted medical devices. The system will consist of a transmitter that will create a modulating magnetic field and a receiver with a metal band that will move with changes in the field. The movement will be translated into electricity able to power implants within range of the magnetic field, up to about 50 cm. The magnetic field will pose no threats to humans, and the power will be sent...
